Collage is a fun, hands-on activity that is perfect for introducing young children to the creative freedom of mixed-media works. In this workshop, students will draw inspiration from natural scenes to create their own paper collage world, before adding finer details with ink and pencil.

Portrait painting is a great way for children to practice the fundamental skills of effective linework, proportion and colour. Students will sketch and paint a portrait of a person or animal of their choice. Students may choose to bring an image to use as a reference, or simply paint from their imagination.

Chalk pastels are an easy-to-use and highly effective medium for creating beautiful art. In this workshop, students will be presented with a variety of random objects from which they will complete a still-life piece. Take a tour through the Gallery and be inspired by the breathtakingly intricate artwork of Joel Sam. Especially tailored for young people, this class will utilise printing foam blocks, which does not require sharp or dangerous tools – making it a safe and accessible alternative to traditional print making. Students will use their imagination to design and carve a scene, before creating their very own monochromatic print.

Watercolours are a simple, versatile and unique medium that can be used to produce vibrant, flowing works of art. This workshop will allow students to practice the fundamental techniques of flat fashing, graded washing and blooming while producing their own colourful self-portrait work, aided by the use of a handheld mirror.
